Paramount Unified School District is committed to providing safe and dependable transportation services for eligible students.

Staff is available to answer questions regarding pick-up and drop-off times, daily updates on bus or taxi routes, and your child’s current transportation procedure.

Transportation Eligibility

School Bus Transportation

Paramount Unified provides school bus transportation to students who meet the applicable distance requirements.

  • Kindergarten through Grade 5: Students living one mile or more from their home school.
  • Grades 6 through 8: Students living two miles or more from their home school.
  • Grades 9 through 12: Students living three miles or more from their home school.

Van or Taxi Transportation

Students in kindergarten through grade 12 may be assigned to a van or taxi depending on the student’s individual needs.

Transportation needs and services may be determined through the student’s Individualized Education Program, or IEP, process.

Bus and Taxi Safety

Tips for Parents and Guardians

  • Arrive at the bus or taxi stop at least five minutes early.
  • Remind children never to run to or from the vehicle.
  • Walk younger children to the bus or taxi stop.
  • Confirm the location of your child’s assigned stop or driver.
  • Meet younger children at the stop at the end of the school day.

Please Remind Your Child

  • Stand back from the curb and wait in line.
  • Remain in line without pushing or shoving.
  • Stay seated while the vehicle is moving.
  • Speak quietly and follow the driver’s directions.
  • Remain outside the bus danger zone (see below).

Important Information for Kindergarten Families

Kindergarten students must be met by a parent, guardian, or authorized adult at the bus or taxi stop. If an authorized adult is not present, the student will be returned to the student’s home school office.

Kindergarten students are assigned seating near the front of the bus, behind the driver.

Routes and Bus Passes

Bus and Taxi Routes

Depending on a student’s assigned stop, a bus route may be as long as 30 minutes. Taxi routes may take up to 20 minutes from pick-up to drop-off.

Bus Passes

The Transportation Office issue bus passes to eligible riders. Students are responsible for carrying their bus pass and must present it when boarding the bus.

Bus Conduct Reports

Students who violate transportation rules may receive a Bus Conduct Report. Parents or guardians must sign and return the report to the school.

  1. First citation: The student may be called to the school office for counseling regarding the reported behavior.
  2. Second citation: The parent or guardian will be notified, and transportation privileges may be suspended for a period of time.
  3. Third citation or serious offense: Transportation privileges may be suspended for a period determined by the school administration.
