Aquaponics at Odyssey STEM Academy

At Odyssey STEM Academy, learning moves beyond theory. It is experienced, tested, and refined through authentic practice.

In the Aquaponics group, scholars explore biological cycles, chemical balance, and systems thinking within a living ecosystem they manage themselves. The nitrogen cycle is not simply read about—it is observed and measured. Questions are encouraged. Discovery is expected. Curiosity leads the work.

With guidance from advisor Caroline, scholars are also supported in extending their interests into real-world pathways. After initiating outreach to local universities, Scholar Tim G. now exchanges ideas with students at California State University, Fullerton who are studying similar life science fields. A high school scholar building a collegiate network. Opportunity expanding through initiative.

This is the Odyssey difference.

Scholars prepare not only for college admission, but for life beyond graduation. They participate in authentic job interviews, earn internships with local businesses and organizations, and graduate with a university-qualified diploma, a developed resume, and real professional experience.

Operated by Paramount Unified School District, Odyssey is a small, tuition-free public STEM school located within Lakewood. Lakewood students are welcome, and the school is transfer-friendly for families seeking a more personalized, inquiry-driven model. Enrollment is by application, offering families the opportunity to intentionally choose a program grounded in curiosity, connection, and readiness for college and career.
