Paramount High School Choir Shines in Final Little Theater Concert of the Season

The Little Theater at Paramount High School was filled with warmth and anticipation as families, friends, and neighbors gathered to enjoy the Holiday choir concert. Directed by Cameron McKay and accompanied on piano by Derrick Butler, the evening unfolded as a heartfelt celebration of student talent and the enduring strength of the performing arts at Paramount High School.

As the house lights dimmed and the stage shifted into soft blue and aqua tones, the concert choir opened with pieces that highlighted their blended harmonies and growing musicianship. From “Le Violette” to “Winter Lullaby,” the students demonstrated both discipline and expressive control—skills cultivated through hard work and steady guidance from their director.

The program moved gracefully between ensemble numbers and featured solos. Performers such as Albert, Gracelyn, Lailah, Yanely, Jesus, and Victor stepped forward with courage and poise, delivering moments that drew warm applause from family members scattered throughout the packed theater. Each soloist brought their own interpretation, reflecting the district’s commitment to nurturing individuality, confidence, and artistic expression.

A highlight of the evening was the debut of an original work by Director McKay. The choir performed “Blue December,” a contemplative piece that blended modern phrasing with the emotional depth of choral storytelling. Students embraced the challenge of bringing a new composition to life, modeling the deeper learning and creative risk-taking Paramount Unified seeks to encourage in all learners.

In addition the concert showcased the Paramount Singers, whose selections included the Renaissance-inspired “Il Bianco e Dolce Cigno” and a spirited seasonal finale featuring “Somewhere in My Memory” and “Feliz Navidad.” These performances filled the room with a sense of joy and community. Even technical elements—light shifts, microphone transitions, and staged entrances—were handled with professionalism, showing the care students invested in every detail of the evening.

While this was the last performance of the season in the Little Theater, the choir’s work continues. Students will share their talents at the Paramount Unified School District Board of Education meeting in December, where another full room is expected to greet them. This final performance of the year will offer a fitting celebration of the arts and of the staff who guide students toward new confidence, new skills, and new creative horizons.
